Modasul Web | Enjoying the Journey of Self-Growth | The road to self-growth and personal development is paved with gold, but getting there isn’t always easy.  In fact, a lot of times it can be quite uncomfortable, tiring, and demanding. How can you make the most out of this gruesome journey to be able to reap the rewards, not just at the end of the rainbow, but at every step of the way?

People who pursue self-development can only weather it out if they are absolutely certain of what they want, why they want it, and where they plan to reach with it, because the path requires much focus and tenacity.  The world makes it seem that a key method to be successful is through constantly practicing delayed gratification.  I mean, isn’t it right that instead of using resources on yourself for instant pleasures, we wait instead to use them when we might really need them? Isn’t it true that sacrificing now for a greater chance of long-term happiness is what makes you successful?

However, self-growth and fulfillment is a journey, not an end. Instead of one long race where the pot of gold is at the end, think of it as a series of shorter races. It could look like a life-long interior battlefield if you always fall into the attitude of comparing your progress against that of others, or if you put a hammer on yourself for every little misstep you take. That’s why a mindset shift is crucial.  This key is to start mastering the art of living in the now.

It may be counterintuitive, but make it a primary habit to find enjoyment in life even while you work on bettering yourself. It will indeed require purposeful effort on your part from within. If you don’t change this, you’re going to run the risk of being discouraged and miserable. Realizing that you cannot get back any moment that has gone by in a day should be enough to motivate you to live it to the fullest. Self-growth is actually not “the main show” that you are rehearsing for, but rather, is part and parcel of your life’s whole “performance”– so you ought to find joy or fulfillment in it at every step of the way.

It’s about time that you allow yourself to embrace a new way of living while on the path of self-growth. If you love nature and scenic places, don’t let the opportunities slip away; there might not be a tomorrow.  Carve out time to go scenic viewing and don’t feel guilty about it.  These simple joys in life, like basking under the warm sun and watching clouds go by, or spending precious moments playing with a toddler, are occasions that you will never regret. Because it is finding gold at every step of the journey that will actually lead you to grow into the best person that you desire.
